New Measurement Ideas

Spectrocolorimetric measurements of artworks

The Restoration Research Center of the French Museums (C2RMF), located in the basement of the Louvre Museum, has recently carried out measurements on decorative ceramics and other types of artworks, using a prototype of a portable, contactless spectrocolorimeter developed by STIL.

Spectrocolorimeter

This instrument allows contactless in-situ measurments which preserve the integrity of the works of art. It consists of a spectrometer (comprising an internal light source) and a light compact probe connected by an optical fiber.

Measurement in situ

The probe illuminates the sample and collects the backscattered light. The size of the emitted light spot may be modified very easily.
