The controller is the optoelectronic cabinet of the sensor. It comprises a light source (internal or external). The same controller may be calibrated for several optical pens.

The optical pen is a chromatic lens connected to the controller by an optical fiber. Optical pens are entierly passive and interchangeable on the same controller.
